After the Music
Mini Harp Workshop with Children
While visiting a third grade class, harp music was provided for relaxation, the children settled into the music and became very quiet.
After the music, each one of them expressed how the music helped them with a sad feeling they had or how the music helped them accept something that had happened to them that had been bothering them.
"During the music, I saw my aunt and she was smiling at me. She told me she was "ok". " The young boy's aunt had passed away and the little vision gave him closure to his aunt's passing.
"After the music, I feel when my friends tease me in the schoolyard, it is not going to bother me anymore".
"See this hand, a young boy holds up his left hand to me, "I have pins in my hand from surgery, now after the music it does not hurt me anymore".
"I saw my grandfather in heaven."
"I saw my uncle in heaven".
And what Have I learned from these experiences of working with children?
I have learned that children tuck feelings inside, especially big feelings they are not able to express easily, I have found that the harp music aids as an open door allowing closure to sadness, anxiety or any troubling experience and gives wholeness, reconnecting a child with a peaceful closure of that experience.
